Thaer Sabri

Thaer Sabri, managing partner

Thaer is a leading expert on e-money and payments, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing law, and is an e-money pioneer, having advised on the first successful e-money issuer licence in 2002 and worked at an international card payment company and an e-currency issuer in the 1990s. He has been a member of the European Commission’s Payment Services Market Expert Group since its formation and a member of the UK Task Force on Payments. He also sits on the UK Joint Money Laundering Steering Group. He is the chief executive officer of the Electronic Money Association.  Thaer regularly speaks at conferences around the world and has published articles on e-money and payments and money laundering matters. He represents the interests of the e-money and payments industry with EU and global regulators, and has played a key role in the development of a number of regulatory regimes. Qazi Jalisi

Qazi Jalisi, partner

Before becoming a lawyer Qazi worked as a research engineer at Imperial College London, advising multi-national corporations on optimising their supply chains. He trained as a solicitor in the City at a magic circle firm and went on to work as a corporate tax solicitor at a leading international law firm and then a leading US law firm. Qazi advises on regulatory matters concerning e-money, payment services, consumer credit, financial services, and data protection. He also advises on consumer protection regulation and virtual currencies. He has worked on a variety of projects in the financial and payments sector, including advising on multi-jurisdictional regulatory requirements, the negative scope of the EU e-money and payments regimes, the regulatory and VAT treatment of virtual currencies in the EU, and structuring crowdfunding in the UK. Veca Kovacevic-Jalisi

Vedrana Kovacevic-Jalisi, partner

Veca trained as a solicitor in the City at a magic circle firm. She has worked on corporate and finance deals of all sizes, ranging from simple bilateral agreements to complex commercial agreements with multiple parties in multiple jurisdictions. Veca is experienced in both civil and criminal law, having represented clients and appeared in civil and criminal courts. She advises banks, e-money institutions, payment institutions, businesses and entrepreneurs on all aspects of corporate and commercial law focusing in particular on regulatory and e-money and payments law. Veca is also a mediator and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators with an interest in mediating disputes within the payments industry. Janetta Millard

our office manager, Janetta Millard

Originally a chemistry technician in Slovakia, Janetta has more than 10 years’ experience of working in finance for international outplacement, aviation and health and safety companies. In 1999 and 2000 she was involved in setting up a UK and international office for a large software development company. Over the past five years, she has worked extensively on short film projects, including several video-editing projects for a student TV channel and the London International Film Festival. She recently completed her first feature film script. Janetta is an affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and holds a Diploma in digital marketing accredited by the Communications Advertising and Marketing Foundation.
